Conor McGregor Stripped of UFC Featherweight Title

The days of Conor McGregor being a two-division champion are over. His reign with dual titles last about 14 days, after UFC President Dana White said he had to give up one of his titles before UFC 205, as he prepares to go on hiatus until May 2017. After his last win, he became the first fighter in UFC history to have dual titles in multiple divisions.

McGregor had to relinquish his featherweight title because the UFC needed to find a last-minute main event when Daniel Cormier tore a ligament in his groin that will sideline him prior to his fight with Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.

The fight was slated to go down at UFC 206 on December 10 in Toronto.

McGregor and his team knew this was going to happen to save the card, since the original one was cancelled earlier this week with the news of Cormier’s injury.

The new UFC 206 event will now feature Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis for the interim featherweight title, with the winner facing Jose Aldo in 2017.
