After being eliminated from the Eastern Conference finals, the number one priority in Toronto was to keep DeMar DeRozan a Raptor for the foreseeable future. That’s just what the team has done in the first day of free agency, locking the guard down to a 5-year, $139 million deal.

DeRozan had teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers interested, but even after opting out of the last year of hic contract and becoming a free agent, he is not going anywhere. The money talked and his heart was always in the 6.

Toronto will now look to add more pieces to what was one of the best teams in the East, hoping to contend against the dominating Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Raptors added Jakob Poeltl in this year’s draft and might be a piece or two away from competing for a Final’s appearance with an already strong core.
