Derek Carr Becomes Highest-Paid Player in NFL History With New Raiders Extension

The Oakland Raiders are heading into a new era and they have locked up the quarter back of the future for a pretty hefty price. But he might be worth every penny of it.

Derek Carr has signed a five-year extension with Raider Nation worth $125 million, making him the highest-paid player in the league and surpassing Andrew Luck‘s annual salary. The two sides had been in negotiations over the course of the few weeks, with a deal being imminent. Obviously, his performance on the field has warranted the Raiders to shell out the cash, after spending years in the league trying to find a stable QB.

Carr finished with 3,937 yards passing, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions last season and seems to be improving ever year. Unfortunately, his season ended early when he broke his fibula in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts. The injury significantly hindered their chances in the playoffs, as they were eliminated by the Houston Texans in the AFC Wild Card Round.

With a move to Las Vegas in the near future, a homegrown running back and young core on defense, it seems like the Raiders are Super Bowl bound if everything goes as planned.
