Derek Jeter Announces 2014 Season Will Be His Last

Tampa Bay Rays v New York Yankees

Last year, we saw the New York Yankees say goodbye to future Hall of Fame closer Mariano Rivera; and it 2014, we’ll see a similar situation. Today, shortstop Derek Jeter announced that this upcoming season will be his last, and that he will retire when it is finished. Jeter took to Facebook to post his farewell message, which has taken some by surprise.

Even battling injuries in recent seasons, Jeter has still be very productive. He has been a staple of the Yankees organization since the 90’s so it is quite hard to imagine watching the Yanks without #2 on the field. Much like they did with Rivera, you can expect an all-out farewell tour given to Jeter at every park the Yankees travel to this year. It will be a special thing to watch all year, and frankly we can’t wait to watch it unfold.

The only thing that could make it more exciting is if the Yanks are competitive this season, and Jeter gets to once again show why he is Mr. November. If the Yankees fail to fake the playoffs, then Jeter’s career will end against the rival Red Sox in Fenway Park.
