The Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez Rematch Will Happen in May

For those of you who were disappointed with the first Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez fight, HBO has set up the second fight in hopes of a better outcome.

Triple G vs. Canelo 2 will go down on May 5, although the site of the even has not been established yet. The Alvarez camp had already given the green light for the second match and they were waiting for Golovkin’s okay to proceed with the sequel to their underwhelming draw last September.

It seems like there was a clause in the contract for this particular rematch, but if you’re thinking there will be a trilogy, as of now, that is not in the contract.

Golovkin’s current record is 37-0-1 with 33 knockouts, while Alvarez is holding on to a 49-1-2 record with 34 knockouts.

As you may remember, their first fight ended in shock, with Adelaide Byrd scoring the fight 118-110 towards Canelo, while Dave Moretti gave the fight to Triple G at 115-113. Don Trella called it a draw at 114-114. There was debate as to how it was called within the boxing community, with some saying Gennady got robbed, while others said, from a technical perspective, Canelo won.

Are you looking forward to part 2 or should we just wait until the trilogy?
