Giannis Antetokounmpo Reportedly Turned Down Role in ‘Space Jam 2’

About a week ago, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported on The Jump that LeBron James was having trouble recruiting top tier talent to join him for Space Jam 2. At the time, we thought it was a little skeptical, though we have our reservations as to LeBron’s ability to recruit All-Star talent to come run with him in Los Angeles with the Lakers.

We actually don’t think anyone big will sign with the Lake Show.

Now news has surfaced to confirm Windhorst’s report, with Giannis Antetokounmpo being one of the big names that has turned down a role in a sequel to Space Jam.

According to Malika Andrews at ESPN, starring in the film would take away two weeks from his summer regimen and that’s something he wasn’t willing to do:

Antetokounmpo does make summer modifications to accommodate for relaxation and family time. Still, when approached about starring in “Space Jam 2” with LeBron James, Antetokounmpo declined. Being in the film would have required him to give up two weeks of private workouts to train with his fellow stars while making the movie, a total non-starter, given Antetokounmpo’s reclusive tendencies.

“I don’t like being Hollywood,” Antetokounmpo says. “I don’t like all this extra drama. I am just going to try to be me.”

As we’ve all seen from the Greek Freak before, he doesn’t look for being friends with players outside the court or even train with them. He doesn’t follow the camaraderie of today’s game and rather train by himself and improve his game the way he needs to without being friends with everyone.

He’s obviously in the MVP conversation for good reason and being a sidekick to LBJ isn’t in the plans. Considering he is almost a household name beyond just NBA circles, we’re sure these types of opportunities will come sooner or later.

What other big names do you think turned down the role?
