Hassan Whiteside Tips In Buzzer Beater Against Pistons

It’s not every day you hear of a big man that knocked down a buzzer beater for the win, but Hassan Whiteside did it last night for the Miami Heat as they beat the Detroit Pistons.

With 11.3 seconds left in the game, the Heat ran a play out of the backcourt that almost didn’t work.

James Johnson brought the ball all the way up the court and pulled for a jumper with 6 seconds remaining, but missed. Luckily, Goran Dragic was there to scrap for the rebound, threw up the prayer and bricked as well. The ball took the friendly bounce right to Whiteside with less than a second left where he just pushed it into the hoop.

The referees reviewed it and the shot was declared good.

This is good news for Miami, because the win puts them ahead of the Chicago Bulls for that final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. It’s coming down to the wire and eighth seed is really up for grabs. The loss also puts Detroit 2.5 games back of the Heat.

FINAL: MIA 97 | DET 96
