Is this the move the Rockets needed to make to become a legit title contender?

Now that LeBron James has officially packed up his bags to return home to Cleveland, the Houston Rockets are on the clock to pick up the shattered pieces of the Miami Big 3 core. It has been no secret the team has been in pursuit of Chris Bosh and now they finally have the financial flexibility to do so, after he verbally committed to leaving Miami in the event that LBJ left the Heat.

To do so, the Rockets have traded Jeremy Lin and a 2015 draft pick to the Los Angeles Lakers for rights to an overseas player, and cash. This frees up about $8.3 million of Lin’s expiring contract so Bosh can ink a reported four-year, $80 million deal.

UPDATE: In a shocking turn of events, Chris Bosh is planning on staying in Miami after Pat Riley and the Heat offered a 5-year $118M deal.

For the Lakers, this helps them in the back court, considering they were in dire need of a point guard after Jordan Farmar left for the L.A. Clippers in the offseason and there is no guarantee than Steve Nash will stay healthy. The Lakers did pick up Jordan Clarkson in the second round of the draft, but he still needs time develop.

As for Kendall Marshall, he has not yet signed a deal, but hopes are he stays with Los Angeles through next season and beyond.
