Isaiah Thomas Issues Statement on Hip Injury after Cavaliers Trade

He’s not talking about Boston just yet. . .

As the sports world braces themselves for the decision on the blockbuster trade between the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski got a the very first comments from Isaiah Thomas – regarding his current health. Prior to suffering the loss of his young sister in a car accident, the 28-year-old star was having the biggest season of his 6-year career thus far.

Thomas came in fifth place for the league’s overall Most Valuable Player, and average nearly 29 points an outing for the 2017 season. However, he suffered a career setback, having to miss the remainder of the Eastern Conference Finals, due to a hip injury.

While not being able to properly mourn the death of his sister and using basketball to cope with the touching situation, he saw his life further flipped upside down two weeks ago with the obvious.

After taking a physical for the Cavaliers last week, he didn’t pass with flying colors, leaving concern to the team regarding their season. Now, he’s decided to address rumors regarding his hip injury, without divulging into the disloyalty from Danny Ainge and Celtics management.

Take a look at his comments below.

Isaiah Thomas statement:

“I am not damaged. There’s never been an indication that I wouldn’t be back, and there’s never been an indication that this is something messing up my career. Maybe I am not going to be back as soon this season as everyone wants me to be, but I’m going to be back, and I’m going to be the same player again. No doctor has told me anything different than that. I haven’t had one doctor tell me that this injury is going to hurt my career.

Surgery was not the best option in this case. I aggravated it in March when Karl-Anthony Towns fell on me. I kept playing on it, and making it worse — until I couldn’t play anymore last season. I don’t know what the organization is doing. It’s out of my control. I just want to talk about what I can control, and I know that this hip won’t be a problem into the future. I have seen hips worse than yours with guys who played at a high level and had great careers.

At the moment, yes, I am injured, but I have made progress from May.”
