Looking back to a season ago, Isaiah Thomas went from a name in the MVP running to being traded to two teams and now facing an uncertain free agent summer and recovery from surgery. The Los Angeles Lakers have announced today that IT will be undergoing right hip surgery scope and will have to go through an extended recovery process.
According to Dr. Bryan Kelly, the surgery will be to “clean up the joint of all inflammatory debris related to his injury from last season.”
In more good news for Thomas, the Lakers may be interested in signing him to a contract next season, depending on how they fare in recruiting big free agents like LeBron James and Paul George. If they strike out on both fronts, they could possibly sign him to another one-year deal to keep cap space open for the 2019 free agency class.
The L.A. front office and coaching staff are very pleased with Isaiah’s role with the team, but his injury will play a huge role in giving him a contract.
