Joel Embiid and LaVar Ball Are in a War of Words

“FUCK LAVAR BALL!”

For whatever reason, Joel Embiid and LaVar Ball don’t like each other. It all started out on NBA Draft night when Ben Simmons threw shots at Lonzo Ball when he got drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers and Embiid quoted him on Twitter saying he should dunk on him so bad his his daddy saves him.

It seemed like it was all jokes and things weren’t serious, but LaVar finally fired back during an interview with Philadelphia radio station 97.5 The Fanatic.

“When you don’t win, and don’t even make the playoffs, and don’t even stay on the court long enough, that’s the best thing you can do—is tweet and make some stuff. Ain’t nobody else doing that, because they’re working on their games in the gym. These guys ain’t played a game, [are] always hurt, and [are] at the bottom of the totem pole. So guess what? Get your [rear ends] off the goddamn Tweeter and get in the gym.”

It seems like father Ball struck a cord with Joel, because it prompted him to answer with his own live chat during all of yesterday’s 4th of July festivities.

Truth be told, LaVar is not completely wrong. The 76ers have not been to the playoffs in forever, they have been trusting the process of losing for damn near a decade, stocking up on Top 5 picks and not seeing any results on the court. Their last few first rounders have not even stepped foot on the hardwood in the first year in the league. Embiid finally made his NBA debut two years after being drafted and barely played 31 games. Simmons hasn’t played an NBA game yet.

Neither has Lonzo, for that matter, but Simmons and Embiid are bullying a rookie who is starting his basketball career at virtually the same time as them. Who will get more W’s next season, though?

UPDATE: The NBA has fined Embiid $10,000 for using inappropriate language on Twitter.
