Is Joel Embiid the new Greg Oden?
When the Philadelphia 76ers selected Jahlil Okafor with the no. 3 overall pick in last month’s NBA Draft, many were questioning its purpose since the team already had Joel Embiid and Nerlens Noel.
In traditional Sixer fashion, the team remained quiet on the Embiid situation until last month when he received a diagnosis update on the right foot not properly healing faster than they expected.
While many have blamed Dr. Richard Ferkel for the failed rehab process, Joel will have to undergo another season-ending surgery in the coming days – which some are even thinking is career threatening.
Throughout his healing process, Embiid has said his foot has no pain, but the team is thinking long-term for their former top draft pick. Whether or not the team decides to move forward without Embiid remains to be seen, Okafor has been showing signs of dominance throughout his summer league play.
