Josh Gordon Is Reinstated by NFL, Faces Suspension

It’s not often a player gets fourth chances, but Josh Gordon has just been awarded one by the NFL. The Cleveland Browns receiver has been in trouble with the league for violating substance-abuse policies in the past and was possibly given his last lifeline of his career on Monday.

After missing the entire 2015 season, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has reinstated Gordon back into the league on a conditional basis, but will still face a suspension upon his return.

“As we discussed at our [July 19] meeting, as Commissioner, I want nothing more than to see you turn your circumstances around and succeed. Countless others including your agent, teammates and coaches, Mr. Haslam and the leadership of the organization, the Program professionals and Jim Brown also have pledged to provide you with every resource at their disposal. But as you acknowledged, ultimately, your future is your responsibility. I have every belief that you can make the right choices, but it will be up to you to do so.” – Roger Goodell

Gordon will be able to participate in training camp and play in all pre-season games, but will be missing in action from the first four games of the 2016-2017 season.

October 3rd will be his first official game back. Ironically, that Week 5 matchup against the New England Patriots will be Tom Brady‘s first game back from Deflate suspension as well.

The Browns have not yet spoke on this situation yet and/or whether they will retain Gordon’s services as of yet. Josh emerged as one of the best receivers in the league, but has missed games every season since his Pro-Bowl year in 2013 because of marijuana related issues. Gordon missed two games in 2013, 10 games in 2014 and was suspended the entire season in 2015.

This is clearly his last chance. We hope the best for him.
