Kawhi Leonard Will Most Likely Miss the Rest of the NBA Season

San Antonio Spurs fans have been waiting for Kawhi Leonard to hit the court for the team this whole season (you know, more than nine games), but there hasn’t been a timetable for his return after that quad injury.

The Spurs currently sit at No. 3 spot in the Western Conference, but they just got a bit of bad news from Coach Popovich concerning Leonard. During a media round earlier today, he told reporters that the possibility of Kawhi returning in a Spurs jersey isn’t likely.

“I’ll be surprised if he returns this season.

Well, we only have X number of games left in the season, and he’s still not ready to go. If by some chance he is, it’s gonna be pretty late into the season. And it’s going to be a pretty tough decision: How late to bring somebody back? So that’s why I’m just trying to be honest and logical. I’ll be surprised if he gets back this year.”

There have been reports that Kawhi isn’t happy in San Antonio for the way the organization has dealt with his injury when he just wants to be on the court. Could he be on his way out of Texas? We’ll see.

UPDATE: According to ESPN, Leonard has opted to stay out of the lineup after consulting with a doctor in New York to get a second opinion. He has been cleared to play and if he returns, it’s because he’s playing through pain.
