Kobe Bryant Talks Potential Future Lakers Role with Stephen A. Smith

Should the Lakers hire Kobe?

A few days ago, Kobe Bryant called into Stephen A. Smith’s ESPN radio show to talk life after retirement. With a baby in one arm and the phone in his other, the legendary hooper discussed watching the Los Angeles Lakers and seeing the team suffer their worst loss in franchise history.

Following a nearly 50-point blowout to the Dallas Mavericks last week, the Black Mamba was asked whether or not he would like to return to the team and help them from the offices. Bryant soon said, “I’m always around behind the scenes for Lakers co-owners Jeanie, Jimmy, and the entire Buss family if they need assistance or if it be to reach out or call for advice and things of that nature.”

So being away from the game after 20-years of consistently playing has been an easy adjustment for him, as he’s enjoying watching his two teenagers grow – and raising a newborn baby. Los Angeles head coach, Luke Walton eventually heard the comments about his former teammate possibly helping the franchise and was skeptical in asking the stern-minded legend for help.

As the Lakers continue their resurrection, Walton said, “It depends in what capacity he will come in and help. After losing by 40, he’s not the first guy I’m calling. Kobe is more about tough love. At that moment, I didn’t need tough love. I didn’t hear that, but it’s good to know he’s here for us.”

With the team possibly looking to tank keep their lottery draft pick, we’re sure this will be addressed if Mamba will become a possible consultant, manager or even team president. Let us know in the comments what type of role you’d like to see Bryant contribute to his former team.
