Kristaps Porzingis Accused of Rape by A Woman in New York

Right before the trade deadline, a blockbuster deal between the New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks shocked the NBA when Kristaps Porzingis took his unicorn talents from the Big Apple to Texas. The Knicks were looking to clear cap space to sign two max spots this offseason and the Mavs wanted to pair the gawd with their star in the making in Luka Doncic.

While things have been quiet from both fronts since, a woman has now come out accusing of Porzingis of rape in New York a year after the alleged incident.

According to the New York Post, the police are investigating the accusations, which claim that the woman took a year to come forward because she was discussing a $68,000 settlement with Kristaps to keep quiet. As she tells it, the incident happened on February 7 at the Sky building in New York (where he lives) on the night he tore his ACL.

Porzingis’ attorney Roland G. Riopelle commented on the situation, saying:

“We are aware of the complaint that was made against Mr. Porzingis on Friday and unequivocally deny the allegations,” Riopelle said. “We made a formal referral to federal law enforcement on Dec. 20, 2018, based on the accuser’s extortionate demands. We also alerted the National Basketball Association months ago, and they are aware of the ongoing investigation of the accuser by federal law enforcement. We cannot comment further on an ongoing federal investigation. Please refer any questions to the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the National Basketball Association.”

Mark Cuban and the Mavericks are well aware of the accusations, but would not comment. The organization also knew of this incident when they traded for him.

We will keep you updated with the story as more news surfaces.

UPDATE: According to Adrian Wojnarowski, there are texts and emails from the accuser and Porzingis, as well as the Knicks about the incident. The woman alleges she was raped inside her apartment and contacted the Knicks legal department to mediate the payment in private. She corresponded with the organization from October to November and had not filed a complaint with NYPD, but was referred to Kristaps legal representation.
