Nerlens Noel Calls Out the Philadelphia 76ers for Leaving Front-Court Jammed

Who’s out, Noel or Okafor?

In three consecutive years, the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor and Joel Embiid – leaving the entire NBA community puzzled as to why they would have so many centers. With Embiid finally set to make his NBA debut next week for pre-season play, Noel has publicly called out the team for not addressing the status of rumored trades with Okafor and himself.

At the moment, Philly plans to make Noel a back-up center to Joel, which isn’t something he wants to do this early in his career, saying a logjam at center is “silly” and doesn’t make any sense for the three. During media day, Sixers president Bryan Colangelo said the team isn’t ready to jump the gun on making any trades; but Nerlens made it clear that he was not happy with the front office’s failure of balancing the roster with backcourt players, after giving away Michael Carter-Williams.

Take a look at his brief comments from media day below.

“I don’t see a way of it working. You’ve got three talented centers that can play 30-plus minutes a night and three centers can’t play 30 minutes a night. That’s that. Things need to be situated. Obviously, somebody’s got to be moved around. It’s a tough situation, but I can only say so much because I have no say and no power. Wait and see? I can’t say I do understand that. I just don’t think it makes too much sense to come into the season with such a heavy lineup at the center position, I don’t know what there is to wait and see.”
