Steve Kerr Still Unsure If He’ll Coach Warriors for 2017 NBA Finals

The status of Steve Kerr coaching in this year’s NBA Finals is still up in the air. The Golden State Warriors coach has been missing in action since the start of the playoffs because of complications due to back surgery, with no timetable for his return in sight. The organization wants him to give him all of the time necessary for his full recovery and will support him 100% regardless of the final decision.

For now, the Warriors have another six days until the NBA Finals start on June 1.

General manager Bob Myers spoke to media and didn’t rule Kerr out for the remainder of the postseason, but did mention that for the moment, he is not well enough to coach.

“He’s doing everything but coaching. But at this point, he’s not able to coach. I wish that I that could say that he was. I’m sure he wishes he could as well, but that’s where we are. If something changes and he feels better, I’ll sit here, or better, he would sit here and tell you. But right now, I can’t say that he’s going to be coaching.

Even though he’s not out there on the bench, you can’t measure the impact of everything else. Some people in life, you know when they’re in the room and when they’re not. Some people in life, you don’t even know if they’re there or not. You know when Steve Kerr walks in the room. He has that [presence].”

Mike Brown has taken the role of acting coach, with Kerr participating at practices, meetings, and game planning at times during the postseason. He even traveled to San Antonio during the Western Conference Finals against the Spurs to offer support to his team.

The Warriors went undefeated with a perfect 12-0 record heading into the NBA Finals, so it’s safe to say the team is in good hands and firing on all cylinders at the moment.

Get well soon Coach Kerr.
