Top 5 Rookie Spotlight: Position Players

America’s favorite past time is being revamped and taken over by the dominant youth throughout baseball. I’m talking the 20-25 age range. Every year each team dips into their farm systems in search of the next breakout young star. The MLB draft doesn’t have nearly as much popularity as say the NFL and NBA drafts, but its always been just as important. The draft creates opportunities for both teams and young athletes with dreams, with having 40 rounds. 40 rounds, so yeah there’s room for more to at least have a cup of coffee with some organization.

There are war rooms, selections announced by the commissioner, along with pictures. There aren’t too many that have the need to see the first overall pick. Who by the way was Dansby Swanson, out of Vanderbilt. That was Vanderbilt’s second ever first overall pick, David Price was the first. Just like every other league the first pick can bust, but there has been greats. Notable successful number one picks from the past include, Darryl Strawberry, Ken Griffey Jr, and Alex Rodriguez.

The youth is taking over, and this year the breakout rookies are very much in the spotlight. This years Rookie of the Year trophies are up for grabs in both leagues. Young stars from different teams are finding success in their first years. What we have here is a chosen select few that have stood out, and outshine the surrounding competition. The front runners in this years rookie of the year race, in my opinion of course. Baseball as a whole is losing the great 90’s players we have grown to love. Trading them in for whichever top prospecting has the world buzzing.
