Microsoft Officially Announces Xbox One Virtual Reality 4K ‘Scorpio’ Console

Here’s an early breakdown of Project SCORPIO!

Yesterday, details for the official Xbox One 4K Slim console was prematurely revealed, before their big event in Los Angeles. As Microsoft started their e3 2016 with confirming the new X1S unit was indeed real, they closed out their nearly two-hour event with the biggest elephant in the room. After teasing virtual reality during their brief demonstration for cross-device and platform play with Minecraft, the show ended with the official announcement of Project Scorpio.

If you remember a few weeks ago, it was first revealed that the new Xbox Scorpio console would be releasing in the coming months. Well, Microsoft has confirmed the VR and 4K-ready device, touted as the most powerful video game console ever, will be arriving holiday 2017. With Sony reportedly declining to offer up any details for their much-talked about PlayStation Neo 4K console, MS has now fired off the first shot for VR gaming in 2016.

Coming Holiday 2017.

Project Scorpio will be the most powerful console ever created, with 6 teraflops of GPU delivering a premier console gaming experience including true 4K gaming and high fidelity virtual reality. Project Scorpio will join the Xbox One family and coexist alongside Xbox One and Xbox One S and all of your Xbox One games and accessories are compatible.

Those of you who are looking to trade in your original Xbox One consoles to GameStop, should wait for a possible special sale during the time of the Slim release this August or holiday 2017 – when the Scorpio arrives. Right now, the gaming retailer is hilariously listing the standard console for a trade credit of only $100, with trade cash being only $80. If you don’t feel like going to supporting GameStop, you can always put up a listing for $200 on Craigslist, like some of us will be doing.
