Universal Planning ‘Fate of The Furious’ Spinoff with Dwayne Johnson & Jason Statham

The Rock x The Transporter

A few days ago, Fast and Furious producer Neal Moritz revealed that Universal Pictures is planning to conclude the main entry series with two final films. With Fate of the Furious still shattering box office records this month; Universal already has major plans in store after the original cast members depart. An official franchise spin-off with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham is currently in the works, and will be penned by franchise writer Chris Morgan.

Both actors are set to reprise their respective roles of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw; as Dwayne has essentially become the main baby face character of the series (see: feud with Vin Diesel).

Originally, Fate of the Furious was set to tease an end of credits scene with Johnson and Statham; but was removed last second by Diesel. With Rocky and Vin leaving their staged dislike for each other behind Fast 8, it’s likely that the pending tenth film could arrive before 2020.

This move will open the floodgates for the Fast and Furious Universe to continue past 2021’s Fast 10; which doesn’t look to be slowing up anytime soon – given the box office receptions.
