R. Kelly Is No Longer Afraid of Being in General Population In Chicago Jail

After fearing for his mental health while in solitary confinement the past few months, R. Kelly is moving to the general inmate population after personnel moved him on Tuesday from a restrictive unit in a downtown Chicago jail.

Kellz had prior concerns about being there when he first got to prison, because he was afraid that other inmates could attack him to make a name for themselves or because of his accusations of sexually assaulting minors.

Prosecutors in the U.S. District Court in Chicago argue that Kelly was not kept in a special housing unit (SHU) against his will like his lawyer has claimed.

Prior to this, Steve Greenberg came out and characterized his treatment as “cruel and unusual punishment” because Kellz did not have privileges like TV, commissary, daily showers or phone calls as frequent as regular inmates. He said he was being held in solitary confinement at no fault of his own, though he did request it when he first went into jail.

In a recorded phone call while in SHU, Kelly expressed his doubts about going back into general pop, but staff told him he could try it a few days.

His lawyer came out and said he is not overly worried about that anymore.

According to TMZ, the Pied Piper is mixing with Chicago inmates fine so far because he is considered a legend in the Windy City but he fears about going to New York, considering he will be housed there awaiting trial.
