Spotify To Restrict Some New Albums From Free Users

Free Spotify users that have been dealing with endless commercials might have another set back later this year when it comes to their listening experience.

The streaming service giant is currently working to renegotiate expire licensing deals with some of the major music labels, and might have to give into their requests when it comes to their free service. Spotify has agreed to restrict some new releases to paid users, adding the clause to appease the majors and reduce the royalty fees paid them.

This all comes as the company moves ahead with an IPO soon and tries to make business more attractive for potential investors. Not to mention those who have minority stakes in them.

It may be months until the hurdles are cleared and the negotiations are finalized, but it may cause a small jump in subscribed users. Then again, others may jump ship to Apple Music or TIDAL. But with 50 million subscribers so far, the giant continues to dominate the industry
