Nets upgrade coaching with hiring of Lionel Hollins.

Earlier today, Jason Kidd was formally introduced as the new head coach for the Milwaukee Bucks. After leaving the Brooklyn Nets due to management and direction issues (….or money), owner Mikhail Prokhorov announced today well-respected veteran coach Lionel Hollins would be taking the reigns as new head coach. Prior to the principle agreement today and during most of the season when Kidd’s job security was questioned, Lionel’s name had been linked to the team multiple occasions, due to his high level of respect from team GM Billy King.

The team finally got their wishes today inking a 4-year/$18M deal with the Hollins. Awkwardly, he helped lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 56-win season and even a spot in the 2013 Western Conference Finals, before a loss to the San Antonio Spurs. Known for playing the traditional NBA style focusing on the front court, he saw success with Mark Gasol and Zach Randolph in his last three seasons with the team. He now joins a veteran Brooklyn team, that he can finally put in check (see: his track record) leveling out the shot attempts from Deron Williams and Joe Johnson, to put more focus into revolving the offense around the captain, Brook Lopez.

With Prokhorov willing to pay any luxury tax and Kevin Garnett committed to re-signing with the Nets, Brooklyn has become a legit destination for free agents to have a deeper look at.
