Gordon Hayward Explains His Experience After Gruesome Ankle Injury

The season was not supposed to start like this for the Boston Celtics or Gordon Hayward. Their prized free agent was supposed to help take the team on a championship run and dethrone the Cleveland Cavaliers at the top of the Eastern Conference.

It took all but five minutes into the first game to see his season all come down to an end after suffering a fractured and dislocated ankle.

While going through recuperation and a long rehab, Hayward sat with The TODAY Show on NBC to talk about his experience thus far and how he’s doing physically and mentally. Gordon was asked about the incident and his thoughts during that tragic time, looking at the injury happen to him and the aftermath of it.

He got emotional when he was asked about his parents (who were at the game watching), saying it still gets to him to think about seeing his mom crying and how he would never want his own kids to endure the type of pain he did.

It’ll still be a while before he returns to the court but he’s vowing to come back better than before. It’s still a long road ahead for him, though.
