Pittsburgh Steelers fans are becoming familiar with this scenario: Le’Veon Bell starts the season suspended for the first few games

For the second year in a row, the running back will not be able to play thanks to a violation to the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The good news? The suspension has been reduced from four games to three, thanks to a settlement between the league and players association.

According to ESPN.com’s Dan Graziano, Bell missed a drug test back in July that counts the same as a failed drug test under the rules.

If Bell manages to violate the substance abuse policy again, his punishment would be four games, rather than 10, because he remains in the same stage of the program. That should come as a relief to fans.

Last season, Bell missed the first two games of the season and played in six, before suffering an MCL tear that ended his season. He finished with 556 yards rushing and three touchdowns. On the receiving side of things, Bell caught 24 passes for 136 yards.
