Mahershala Ali Confirmed To Star in HBO’s ‘True Detective’ Season 3

‘True Detective’ Season 3 close to greenlight

Three years ago, HBO gave its viewers one of the best shows that hit cable TV in quite some time. That was with the 2014 premiere of True Detective. That following year, season two premiered, and though the average viewers seen a decent hike in numbers, it didn’t do the first season justice. Against all odds, the show was announced to be coming back for a third season earlier this year.

While Matthew McConaughey revealed that he was open to return for the new season, not much has been confirmed as of yet. Earlier this month news broke that Moonlight and Luke Cage star, Mahershala Ali could possibly be one of the stars of season three.

HBO’s president of programming Casey Bloys gave an update on the new season’s progress, and we’re pretty excited about it. Bloys confirmed that Ali will star in the third season and says he’s read “five great scripts” so far and that he’s “very, very impressed and excited” about what he’s read — calling the scripts “terrific.” He also went on to say that they are talking to directors, and once they find their go, the show will be “a go.”

Mahershala Ali is coming off a supporting actor award win at the Oscars for his role in Moonlight. As well his praised role as Remy Danton in Netflix’s House of Cards and recurring spot on Luke Cage. Ali is also the star of JAY-Z’s 4:44 short film alongside Danny Glover. It’s uncertain which song from the album will play as the videos soundtrack but for now, you can watch the trailer here.
