Jimmy Iovine Reveals Plans for Apple Music Original Video Content

Apple Music has been taking over the music streaming game since it came into business (the company has already amassed half the user base that Spotify currently has) and they’re taking things further into the future by adding original video content to the platform. The service already has a documentary in The Defiant Ones (with Dr. Dre) on the way and landed James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke series. Now, Jimmy Iovine reveals some information about what the company is planning for the next stage of their takeover.

In an interview at the Television Critics Association press tour, Iovine all but confirmed a report by The Wall Street Journal that explained how Apple Music was expanding into video content, including television shows, movies and more:

“At Apple Music, what we’re trying to create is an entire cultural, pop cultural experience, and that happens to include audio and video. If South Park walks into my office, I am not going to say you’re not musicians, you know? We’re going to do whatever hits popular culture smack on the nose. We’re going to try.

We’re fighting ‘free.’ So a simple utility where, ‘here’s all the songs, here’s all the music, give me $10 and we’re cool,’ is not going to scale”

At what point does Apple Music finally surpass Spotify as leaders of the streaming game? Pretty soon, right?
