We all know how bad the Toronto Raptors did DeMar DeRozan this summer, when they told him he wouldn’t be traded at Summer League then trading him shortly after. GM Masai Ujiri apologized for that “gap in miscommunication” but the damage is done.
As he packs up and moves to San Antonio to play for the Spurs next season, DeRozan is leaving the city with one final message, thankful of his time there:
Words could never express what you’ve meant to me. I was just a 19 year old kid from Compton when we first met, but you took me in and embraced me as one of your own. I am so grateful for the Love and Passion that you’ve given me over the past 9 years. All I ever wanted to do was duplicate it 10x over just to show my appreciation. Thank you Toronto, thank you Canada. #Comp10 #ProveEm
Though Toronto may be in his heart, his new chapter of his life will begin in Texas with Coach Popovich, who couldn’t praise him any more in his talk with the media after the trade. The Spurs will be pushing for a playoff spot next seaon, but folks shouldn’t rule them out in the Western Conference, no matter how stacked it is.
