Jordan Brand Will Let Contract with Kawhi Leonard Expire this Year

Financially, Kawhi Leonard has been completely dropping the bag lately instead of securing it. Could he bounce back? Absolutely, but for the moment, KL has missed out on a SUPER MAX deal with the San Antonio Spurs and a hefty contract with Jordan Brand.

Earlier this year, Leonard and his team turned down a 4-year, $22 million extension with the Jumpman and the company announced today they will let him walk when his original deal expires later this year.

This effectively makes Leonard a sneaker free agent.

Though he is a two-time NBA All-Star, two-time Defensive Player of the Year and three-time All-Defensive first team selection, as well as 2014 NBA Finals MVP — his marketability has always been in question despite the accolades.

The Jordan Brand extension would have paid him an approximate $5.5 million a year, which is in the Paul George range for a shoe contract.

Of course, other brand may want his services but landing a deal in the James Harden $200M vicinity could be impossible for him, given his current situation. Obviously, he feels like he’s one of the best players in the NBA and should be paid accordingly, but will anyone buy a signature shoe from the quietest guy in the league?

The man hasn’t even said a word about the Spurs, being traded or anything.

His only chance now is playing at that MVP top caliber level with the Toronto Raptors and hope other shoe giants like Adidas, PUMA or Under Armour come calling.
